GTA IV's story revolves around Niko Bellic, a war veteran who comes to Liberty City because his cousin Roman promised an easy American life. The people around him split into friends, employers and enemies, and many of them shift between those roles as the story goes on. Here are the names that matter most.

Niko Bellic

Niko arrives at the Broker docks hoping for a fresh start, but he is also hunting the man who betrayed his army unit years ago. His dry humor and tired outlook make him one of the most memorable leads in the series. Almost every job he takes pulls him deeper into the city's crime world.

A Jamaican dealer whose thick accent fans love to quote, Little Jacob sells Niko weapons from the trunk of his car and backs him up in several big missions. He is one of the most loyal people in Niko's life.

Brucie Kibbutz

Loud, obsessed with fitness and fast cars, Brucie runs street races and car theft jobs. Once he likes Niko enough, he offers helicopter rides across the city.

The McReary Family

Packie brings Niko into the Irish crew and later offers car bombs as a friend ability. Kate is the honest sister who becomes close to Niko. Gerry runs things from behind bars, Derrick struggles with addiction and Francis is a corrupt police deputy commissioner who can clear wanted levels.

Dimitri Rascalov

Main antagonistRussian mob

Dimitri is Mikhail Faustin's partner who convinces Niko to kill Faustin and then betrays him. His double-cross drives the story for many hours, and he returns at the end in both endings.

Jimmy Pegorino

Mafia bossAlderney

The head of a struggling Alderney family who wants a seat among the city's major crime families. His final job forces the big choice between the Deal and Revenge endings, explained in story and endings.

Other Faces Worth Knowing

Mallorie is Roman's girlfriend, later his wife, and introduces Niko to several contacts. Elizabeta Torres, Playboy X and Dwayne Forge are employers whose stories end in very different ways, and Ray Boccino links Niko to the Italian families.

Bernie Crane, Darko Brevic and the mysterious United Liberty Paper contact tie into Niko's past. Their missions are some of the most personal in the game. Friends and their abilities are covered in friends and activities.
